TJ Candy

Biography

TJ Candy is a Principle Engineer for Product Safety at GE Aerospace in Cincinnati, OH. TJ currently has engagement with numerous military gas turbine engine development safety programs and oversight of the development safety process used at GE Aerospace. He teaches development safety as a part of the System Safety Course at USC.

TJ has been in the aerospace/defense industry since 1981 working primarily with gas turbine engines, first from component suppliers until joining General Electric in 1990. His safety experience dates back to 2003 working operational/sustainment safety with the GE F101/F110/F118 engine product family (F16, B1, B2, C5, U2 and more) supporting fielded product safety risk management tasks. In 2005 he was assigned to the F136 Safety team working a new centerline engine for the F-35 A, B and C models. Since then he has worked exclusively on development safety efforts for the XA100, T901 and other advanced military engine development programs and consulted on a number of other military and commercial advanced safety programs. TJ recently received a major Engineering Excellence Award from GE Aerospace for his contributions to the advanced military safety process.

TJ has held numerous engineering design and IT roles in multiple companies over the course of his career (Bendix, Textron) and has applied for numerous software patent for application tools he designed, developed and implemented at each of the companies he has worked. TJ has been actively engaged in the incorporation of the MIL-STD-882 safety process into the Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) concept into the tools and processes used at GE Aerospace. In addition, TJ is mentoring a number of GE employees on the development safety process.

TJ received his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University in 1981.

TJ's past-times includes travel (cruises), golf, running and the occasional frosty beverage.
