Daniel Strub
Biography
Dan Strub is a System Safety Engineer at Space Launch Delta 30 (SLD30) located at Vandenberg Space Force Base (SFB), California. SLD30 launches all US polar-orbiting satellites and routinely conducts ballistic missile tests to assess the readiness of the strategic force. There are currently eight major launch programs located at Vandenberg, representing all Space Force and major commercial agencies.
Before joining SLD30, Dan had extensive experience in satellite and launch operations and space acquisition. He has worked as an acquisition program engineer and system safety staff member at Space Systems Center, a Range Safety Officer at SLD30, a crewmember at the 2nd Space Operations Squadron (2SOPS) Global Positioning Squadron operations at Schriever AFB, and as a contractor crewmember for Space Delta 4 (Missile Warning) at Buckley SFB. His duties have also involved supervisory positions. One as the Chief of the NDS (NUDET Detection System) payload branch at 2SOPS, and later as the lead staff engineer for the Defense Support Program at Space Delta 4.
Dan has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy and a Master’s Degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. In addition, he was instrumental in developing and hosting a 2007 NASA workshop on payload safety. He has served in various positions in both the System Safety Society and the American Society of Safety Professionals. His most recent efforts included developing an AIAA standard on lithium-ion battery technology. He was also a principal member of the team to publish NFPA 461, Standard for Fire Protection and Life Safety at Spaceport and Support Facilities. Currently, Dan is a member of the AIAA S-102 Mission Assurance Working Groups.
Dan is currently a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) specializing in system safety. He has also served as adjunct faculty at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he taught system safety, construction safety, human factors, and accident investigation. Dan has contributed papers and hosted various tutorials at recent International System Safety Society conferences.
